Multi-Track Recorder

Lay down a track. Record the next track while listening to it. Mix everything down to a single MP3 — like a stripped-down DAW you can use anywhere.

Wear headphones.

While recording track 2 onward, the previous tracks play back live so you can perform along to them. Without headphones the playback bleeds into your microphone.

About multi-track recording

This is a stripped-down four-, eight-, twelve-track recorder you can use without any install. Record a take with your microphone. Then record another take while the first one plays back in your headphones — your second performance lands in time with the first. Repeat for harmonies, percussion layers, voiceovers over a guitar bed, podcast hosts on the same track sheet, whatever you need. When you're done, mix everything to a single MP3.

It's not a substitute for a real DAW — there's no per-track EQ, no per-track timing nudge, no automation, no destructive editing. What it is: the fastest way to capture a layered idea without installing anything. Useful for songwriters mocking up an arrangement, podcasters recording multi-host episodes from a single mic on the move, or language learners stacking pronunciation passes.

How to use the multi-track recorder

  1. 01

    Wear headphones

Required from track 2 onward — without them, the previous tracks bleed into your microphone and create a mess.

  2. 02

Record one track at a time

Press 'Record track' to capture mic input. Stop when you're done. The track appears in the list.

  3. 03

    Record over it

Press record again. The previous tracks play back live so you perform along to them. Stop when done — the new take is added.

  4. 04

    Mute, delete, mix

Toggle mute on tracks you don't want in the final mix. Delete bad takes. Press 'Mix' to render an MP3 of all un-muted tracks.

Why use this multi-track recorder

Multi-track recorder FAQ

Why do I need headphones?

Without headphones, the previous tracks play back through your speakers and the new take's mic captures them too. The result is each track containing every previous track at low volume — a feedback-style mess that's hard to undo. Headphones isolate the playback from the mic.

Why isn't there a metronome / click track built in?

There is — separately. Use the Audio Generator's metronome mode to render a click MP3, then download it and import it as your first 'track' on this page. We may bundle them in a future update.

Can I shift a track in time?

Not in this version — all tracks start at t=0 in the mix. For arrangement work that needs precise timing, use a real DAW (Reaper, Audacity, GarageBand).

What happens if a track is silent?

It's added to the mix at zero level — no problem, just doesn't contribute. Use the mute button if you want to exclude it explicitly.

Are the recordings uploaded?

No — recording stays local to your tab and the mix is rendered without uploading. Nothing leaves your device.
