About half-speed audio

Half-speed playback is the fastest way to transcribe a fast talker, learn a guitar lick note-for-note, study a foreign-language podcast, or pull samples from a track. The tool stretches the audio to twice its original duration. You pick whether the pitch should follow the speed (lower pitch — the classic slowed sound) or stay locked (so voices keep sounding natural).

Pitch-preserved 0.5× is the right choice for spoken content. Pitched-down 0.5× is the right choice when you're going for the slowed-and-reverb / vaporwave aesthetic.

How to half-speed audio

  1. 01

    Drop your file

MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC, M4A — any common audio format.

  2. 02

    Pick a pitch mode

Preserve pitch for spoken content. Let pitch follow speed for the slowed-and-reverb / chopped-and-screwed feel.

  3. 03

    Render and download

Output is the same format as the input (MP3 stays MP3, FLAC stays FLAC), at 0.5× duration.

Why use this half-speed tool

  • Locked at 0.5× — one-click preset, no slider to fiddle with
  • Pick whether pitch is preserved or follows the speed
  • Same input format on the way out — MP3 in, MP3 out
  • Free, private, no install
  • No file size or duration cap from us
  • Useful for transcription, instrument practice, sample-pulling and slowed-and-reverb edits

Half-speed FAQ

Will the audio sound chipmunky-but-low?

Only if you choose 'Pitch follows speed'. With 'Preserve pitch' on, voices stay sounding like themselves and just play at half speed — perfect for transcription.

Can I go even slower than 0.5×?

For 0.25× and other custom speeds use our main /speed-changer page.

Does it work on long files?

Yes. Hour-long podcasts work fine on a desktop.

Is my file kept private?

Yes. We don't analyse or index your file.
