Audio to QR Code
Encode a very short audio clip (about 1 second) into a scannable QR code. Drop any audio file — the first second is auto-trimmed because that's all a QR can hold.

Drop any audio file. The first ~1 second is auto-trimmed because a QR code can only hold about 3 KB of data.
A QR code can only hold ~3 KB. At our compression settings that's about 1 second of audio. The slider tops out at 2.5 s — anything longer simply won't fit and the encode will fail. The first 1.0 second of the file is what gets encoded.
About this audio-to-QR tool
QR codes hold about 3 KB max in their highest-density form. That's enough for a one-second voice note or sound effect at low bitrate — nowhere near a song. To make this work without you having to trim the file yourself, the tool auto-trims to the first second (or whatever clip length you pick on the slider, up to 2.5 s) before encoding.
Niche but fun — useful for art projects, escape rooms, museum installations, or sticker designs that play a sound when scanned. Not a practical music-sharing solution: a 3-minute song is roughly 250× too large to fit in a single QR.
How to encode audio as a QR code
- 01
Drop any audio file
Length doesn't matter — the tool will auto-trim to the first second by default.
- 02
Pick clip length
Slider goes 0.3 s – 2.5 s. Keep it short — bigger clips just won't fit in a QR.
- 03
Encode and save the PNG
Audio is encoded into the QR pattern. Scanners that follow data: URIs will play the audio inline.
Why use audio-to-QR
- Auto-trims any input to a QR-fittable clip — no need to pre-cut
- Adjustable clip length (0.3 s – 2.5 s)
- Output is a PNG of the QR + the embedded audio data
- Free and private — we don't analyse or index your audio
- No watermark, no signup
- Useful for art projects, escape rooms, museum installations
Audio-QR FAQ
Why is the clip so short?
QR codes max out at around 2.9 KB of binary data. After encoding the audio at the lowest reasonable quality, you get about 1 second per QR. Anything longer simply doesn't fit.
Can I encode a whole song?
No — a 3-minute song is roughly 250× too big for a single QR. For longer audio, host the file somewhere and encode the URL as a normal QR instead.
How do I scan it back to audio?
QR scanners that handle data: URIs (the iOS camera does, with permission) will open the audio directly in the browser and play it. Generic third-party QR readers may show the raw data instead.
What if I get a 'too big' error?
Drop the clip-length slider lower. At 0.5 s the result is comfortably small; at 2.5 s it may overflow depending on the source.
Is my file kept private?
Yes. We don't analyse or index your audio.
