About this ALAC to FLAC converter
Apple Lossless (ALAC) and FLAC are both lossless audio codecs — converting between them keeps every bit of the original audio. Will the audio quality drop?
No. Both ALAC and FLAC are lossless — the converted file is bit-identical to the original audio.
Will tags and album art be preserved?
Yes — title, artist, album, year and embedded artwork are copied across automatically.
Can I go the other way?
Yes — drop a FLAC into the main converter and pick M4A as the output. The audio quality is preserved (FLAC → ALAC is also lossless).
Why is FLAC more compatible?
ALAC was Apple-only for years. FLAC has been an open standard with broad device support since the mid-2000s, so most non-Apple ecosystems prefer it.
